the fun started as the world turned zero.

…and it has been a blast during that night, although the theme was a bit morbid. Not to mention scary but thrilling. It was like watching a surreal movie. Yet, all I saw was a bunch of models walking on the catwalk, clad in apocalypse-inspired outfits designed by the advertising juniors.
The event was called YEAR ZERO: Apocalypse Recoutured, and it was held at the SMX Convention Center, Function Room 4 last Wednesday, February 24, 2010. It started a bit late (I think it was 7:30), but the show progressed perfectly, making it a big success.
Advertising sophomores (including me) were required to watch the show and make a reaction paper for our adprac3 class. But since I thought of writing it here, I’d be happy to share my fill of rants and raves about the event.
First of all, let’s talk about the transportation. We were given three options for this one:
a. a bus ride back and forth to UST
b. a bus ride going to SMX and being fetched by parents on the way home
c. going to and fro the venue by your parents (or even by yourself…if you dare! HAHAHA.)
In my case, I chose the first option, because it’s safer that way. I didn’t have to worry about counting jeepney rides in order to get to the venue, not to mention its cost. I even liked the idea of sharing a bus ride (alongside my block) with some people from different sections, particularly from blocks 3, 4, and 5.
Anyways, let’s review about the transportation. The UST bus provided the right amount of comfort to all its passengers, and they even got the chance to watch TV for entertainment purposes. (Would you believe that I got to watch the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament while on our way to SMX? It was really fun.)
Then there’s the venue. As what I’ve said earlier, the event was held at the SMX Convention Center, Function Room 4. I believe that the venue is fit for the event, and it is air-conditioned for ventilation purposes. Its façade has a touch of elegance—perfect for a well-organized fashion show.
Each of us were offered some snacks, found on each chair. It was a nice thing for me, but it really pays to have a hearty meal at the catering area outside the function room before the show started. The food tasted good—and it’s much better eating out with my friends.
While watching the show, I was amazed by how models carry their designers’ masterpieces. I didn’t see anyone trip as they strut on the catwalk. The lights, sounds, and other effects fit well, adding a bit of suspense in some parts of the show. For instance, a cloud of smoke comes out before the last model struts around the catwalk, giving an aura of suspense and excitement as each section ended their part. But, I also saw some minimal technical problems regarding the video coverage of the models, especially during the first part. Still, that didn’t stop them from ruining the show completely.
Speaking of the costumes, my personal favorites are that of 3ad-2 (Steam Allusion) and 3ad-5 (Black Easter). Speaking of which, I liked how they designed their clothes—and how they matched the theme to their masterpieces. Some of them may have gotten inspirations from various designs, but the good thing here is they put a little twist for a personal touch. On the other hand, the designs of 3ad-3 kids are way off. I know, they did awesome styles, but that didn’t match the theme (Cosmic Winter).
Lastly, for the overall, I would like to say that the YEAR ZERO fashion show is a success. Every detail—the venue, the promos, and other matters—are well-organized. They might have spent a little too much for the show, but they made a lot of effort to do such a splendid presentation. On a scale of 1 to 5, I’d like to give a grade of 4.5.
Okay. That’s all for the critiques. By the way, I’ll first show you designs created by the juniors. (Click the photos below for larger viewing and some other tidbits.)

Then, I’d like to show you some of my photos before, on, and after the fashion show.
That's me before the year zero.at the SMX with Vanessa. Ross, the dude in black, should be part of this picture but he declined.with Vee and Gen during the fashion show. Credits to Gen, a.k.a. Vieverie.
That’s all for now. Ta-ta! :D
